Marion Now Using Mobile ATE Camera to Enforce Speed Violations

In addition to the stationary automated traffic enforcement (ATE) units, Marion also utilizes a mobile ATE camera to enforce speed violations. The mobile unit, pictured is deployed based upon speeding complaints from residents or based on other information that necessitates a public safety need. Prior notice for deployment of the mobile ATE unit will be posted on the department’s social media pages a minimum of 12 hours in advance.

Citations are issued to the registered owner of the vehicle, and they are responsible for either paying the fine or contesting it.

If you receive a violation notice in the mail, please follow the instructions included with the citation for the proper procedures to review the violation, pay the citation or contest the citation.

You can contest the citation by asking for the citation to be reviewed by a member of the Marion Police Department. If the citation is not rescinded, you can either pay the fine, or if you disagree with that decision, you can request the citation be dismissed and a municipal infraction be issued which will be adjudicated in court.

Why are there so many signs about photo enforcement in Marion when there are only two stationary cameras?
The signage is in place where the stationary units are installed and at the main entrances into the city for added transparency as the mobile unit will move around. In addition, the Police Department will announce the mobile unit’s location at least 12 hours before enforcement on their social media pages.
